Zingiber: Greenhouse Plants

T – tropical, minimum of 18°C (65°F)

Family: Zingiberaceae

An interesting group of plants which all have aromatic rhizomes. Zingiber officinale from the East Indies is the main source of commercial ginger and is the only species easily obtainable. Many greengrocers stock the rhizomes which can be planted and grown on. I have never seen one of these flower but they do make an attractive foliage clump. They really do require a lot of warmth to do well.
