Setcreasea : Greenhouse Plants

W – warm, minimum of 13°C (55°F)

Family: Commelinaceae

Setcreasea purpurea from Mexico is like a pink-purply rather untidy larger version of Tradescantia (Wandering Jew) which although attractive with its bright leaves and pink flowers always seems ungainly to me, quickly becoming straggly and in need of cutting back. Fortunately, cuttings root very easily so fresh plants can be continually brought on to replace older ones. Seed if available should be sown just under the surface of peat compost at 21 °C (70°F). I would grow several rooted cuttings in one pot for a good display.
