Mutisia: Greenhouse Plants

FF – frost free only / C – cool, minimum of 7°C (45°F)

Family: Compositae

S America

Mutisia ilicifolia is a climber with holly-like leaves which end in a long tendril. The flowers are pinky-mauve and 5-8 cm (2-3 in) across. They are produced almost continuously making this an extremely useful plant for brightening up the greenhouse. Cuttings of half ripe shoots can be taken in spring. Plants are sometimes available as seed although that gathered in Britain is never very reliable.
