Dizygotheca : Greenhouse Plants

W – warm, minimum of 13°C (55°F) / T – tropical, minimum of 18°C (65°F)

Family: Araliaceae

Australasia

Only one species is commonly grown and this is Dizygotheca elegantissima from the New Hebrides. The shape of the leaves really is elegant; they are very dark green and divided into narrow toothed leaflets radiating out from the leaf stalk. Although growing much stronger and faster in warmer temperatures it is possible to grow them at 10°C (50°F) but they will require less water, especially in winter, and will become very squat and smaller leaved, almost like a dwarf form. Plants are easily raised from seed sown in April at 24-26°C (75-80°F) and placed in the light. If several seedling plants the same size are available it is a good idea to pot them three to a pot of peat-based compost to make a really good display. I have never known plants to be raised by cuttings.
